AM Chimney's top wood burning tips!

Updated: Mar 4, 2021

With winter still showing it’s face, here are some top tips from Alan, our Director on how to use your fire effectively in cold weather and remain safe…

1. Only burn cured and dried wood.

Split, stacked and dried logs burn the longest and without excess smoke.

2. Buy well seasoned logs from a trusted supplier.

You want your logs to have less than 20% moisture, so your heat output is at it's maximum. Using well seasoned wood also means you can avoid a build-up of tar in your stoves flue!

3. Install smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors.

A carbon monoxide leak can be deadly. Place them close to your fireplace and throughout your home to ensure you and your family are always safe.

4. Maintenance & Cleaning

It’s important to have your chimney swept, cleaned and maintained a least once a year. You can book a service with us yearly and we have a list of reputable Chimneys Sweeps on our site to enable you to get the job done in the best way possible.
